Escaping
I was at a camp in the woods. It was the camp of a cult of people who tried to live live like settlers in the Rocky Mountains in the early 1800s. The men liked to hunt, and the women all wore long dresses. I had two friends, a boy and a girl. They wanted to escape with me. We built a wearable hot air balloon. It had three suits attached to it for each of us to wear. A large, multi-paneled skirt surrounded us all, and the balloon rose up above our heads when we lit enough tea lights, which we held on a platter. The boy didn't want to leave right away because he liked the food they were serving, and he kept showing me how to steal quarters from a pinball machine.
I fled up a hill with dogs chasing me. There were three kinds--a white wolf who was friendly, a small pit bull who wanted to play, and a wild dog who nipped at my heels. I made it to the top of a dusty hill and saw the skyline of Dallas. I knew if I could get enough height with the balloon, I would be able to make it to the city. I frantically lit the candles in my tray as the cult people came up the hill. The wicks were too short, and the candles repeatedly tipped over. My lighter melted, but a woman gave me a new one. Still I couldn't keep enough candles lit to fill the balloon.
